In the 15th century temple of Jampa at Lo Manthang there is a painted cycle of Mandalas dedicated to the peaceful and wrathful deities. Through some chemical action a section of the wall paintings have turned black. Above the main mandalas and paintings of mahasidhas is a row of dakinis, the “sky walkers” of Tibetan Buddhism, female companions and muses to religious practitioners.
